Custom Ride

How to turn your car, into a customised coloured ride! (All images in this tutorial are scaled down to around 50% and CAN ALL be enlarged)

1. Open your car in photoshop

2. Now, grab the pen tool - make sure you have the "shape layers" button clicked as shown. you might want to set your foreground colour to a contrasting colour to the car (it dosent matter, it is changed later)

3. Now, the pen tool is an extremley useful tool. you click on a point on the outline of the car then, you click the outline of the car just a few centimeters away, whilst still holding your mouse down drag your pointer away in the direction you were still going. IF you want to make curves then move your mouse to either side. To finish the point, hold down ALT and with the mouse button STILL held down, point it in the direction where your next point will be.

4. If 1/2 way through, you realise you cannot se where you are going, hit 50 on your number pad and it will reduce the opacity of the layer enabling you to see.

5. keep going all the way around the car

6. Now, your thinking... What about the windows which are still red, and the headlights? Well, on the toolbar, there is a button (see image) that subtracts areas away

8. Yes! Ok... so.. now your thinking... the wingmirrors are still silver? Well, on the toolbar, there is a button (see image) that adds back onto the current layer

9. Ok. the car now has a masking of, in this case, red. now, hold CTRL and click the thumbnail of the selection picture on the layers palate:

10. now you have marching ants around your car :) click the eye tool of the pen selection on the layers palate

11. Create a new layer, call it.. Colour. now, pick a nice colour that you like. Then click Edit > fill - and put foreground colour. Now on the layers palate, set the blending options to Color.

Maybe you could even try multicoloured. this was done by gradients.
