Freaky Text

To begin, grab a tombstone image or click on the image below to download the image that I will be using for this tutorial.

Next, find a bare section of the tombstone that matches the color/pattern surrounding the text and use the "Rectangular Marquee Tool" to set a selection around it. Create a new canvas and then put that selected pattern into the new canvas. Go to the main menu and select "Image" then "Trim" to decrease the size of the canvas to fit snug around the pattern. Any color bordering the pattern will ruin the effect, so make sure it does fit snug. Now go to the main menu once again and select "Edit" then "Define Pattern". Give it a name and hit OK.

Now go back to the tombstone canvas and then go to the toolbar and grab the "Polygonal Marquee Tool" and make a selection around the text of the tombstone. Create a new layer and fill. Turn the opacity down to 0.

Right click on the newly made layer and select "Blending Options" then click on "Pattern".

You may click OK

The original text should now be covered by the new pattern, like so:

Now grab the "Text Tool" and select "Times New Roman" and set at 11 pixels with color black and type your text.

With your text in place you can now go to the main menu and select "Filter" then "Artistic" then "Colored Pencil".

Use the settings at left to get the same effect as I did.

Click OK.

Right click on the text layer and select "Blending Options" then click on "Inner Shadow".

You may now click OK.

It should look similar to the below image.

For the smaller text I used "Times New Roman" and set at 6 pixels with color black. Use the below settings for the "Colored Pencil" filter on the smaller text as well. That's it folks.
