This is a part of the finished product from this tutorial, a nice illuminated texture.
I am going to show step by step how to do it.
First, fill your document -alt+f- with a color you like, I chose #C8B360. The size of the document is 600x600px.
Time to texture, go to Filter > Texture > Texturize. There, chose the Canvas. And use Scaling 100%, Relief 4, Light Top.
Your image is looking like this now:
The main idea of this tutorials is not the texture in itself, its showing how to use lightning to create a very beautiful effect in any texture. So its a good idea to play around with the texture filter later, there you can get very nice textures.
Time for Lightning.
Go to Filter > Lightning Effects. You have three kinds of lights to put there. Omni, Spotlight and directional. Put an omni light on the top right, just as in the picture. Be careful with the settings, Intensity, Exposure etc. Adjust everything just like the picture.
Now add a second light (Clicking on that light on the bottom), and put as the settings on the pic.
Now add a third light, just as in the following picture:
Your image is finished! See how that boring earlier texture is much more interesting now? The good part is that you can use lightning effects to improve any of your textures.
An teaser of a web site I made using this technique:
Note that the texture in the background is very beautiful, but in fact it was a normal-boring texture, but with lots of lightning effects look this way now.
I hope that you liked the tutorial, and good luck with your lightning effects.
